Child porn pervert Paton (56) will hear his fate next month

CHILD porn pervert Peter King Paton had his sentence deferred by a further six weeks on Wednesday.

The 56-year-old, formerly of Burnbank, Hamilton, was found guilty of taking indecent photographs of a young girl in a loft space in his home.

This week he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court after his sentence was deferred for reports last month.

Paton was convicted of possessing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children between August 16, 2002, and October 10, 2007.

He was also guilty of taking, or allowing the taking of, indecent photographs of children between June 18, 1994, and June 17, 2002. The jury took just over an hour to find Paton guilty by a unanimous verdict.

However, defence solicitor told the court on Wednesday that his client would benefit from further reports before sentencing. He suggested to Sheriff Joyce Powrie that, due to Paton receiving medical treatments in the past, a psychological report would benefit him.

He also explained that a supplementary social enquiry report would further assess Paton’s suitability for group work and probation.

The court was told that Paton, formerly of Mayfield Road, met his victim - who cannot be named for legal reasons - through her mother’s attendance at a branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He then took indecent photographs of the girl, who was 10 or 11 years old at the time, and has learning difficulties.

The photographs were taken in a loft at Paton’s home while he was baby-sitting the girl.

Sheriff Powrie deferred sentence until April 20 for two more reports. Bail was granted meantime and the accused will remain on the sex offenders’ register.
