Car crime spree in Uddingston

EIGHT cars in Uddingston were broken into at the weekend – and goods to the value of around £2000 were stolen.

In one village street, Greenrigg, items were stolen from six vehicles after their windows were smashed between 6.30pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.

Vehicles in Angela Way and Old Mill Road were also targeted.

The vehicles in Greenrigg were a Vauxhall Corsa, a Vauxhall Combo van, two transit vans, a Citroen Xsara and a Suzuki Gran Vitara.

The haul from the Transit vans included a Bosch drill, an electric drill, a drill set and tool box, an angled torch, a sat-nav and a car stereo.

A sat-nav and an iPod were taken from a Citroen Picasso parked in Angela Way between 8pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.

And a variety of tools and cds were taken from a Mitsubishi Colt parked in Old Mill Road between 1am on Saturday and 1.30pm on Sunday.

Superintendent Colin Campbell of Hamilton Police this week urged motorists to ensure their cars are locked and items of value stored out of sight. He said: “Please ensure that you lock your car and store all items of value out of sight.

“If you have a garage, ensure it is locked. If you have a driveway use it.

If parking in the street try to park in a well-lit area .

“Remove your sat-navs and their cradles, as well as audio equipment where possible. Do not be tempted to leave them in your glove compartment as this is the first place thieves will look.”
