Uddingston primary St John's gets official opening

UDDINGSTON’S newly-refurbished St John the Baptist Primary School was officially opened last week.

During the ceremony invited guests and dignitaries were given the chance to see around the new the state-of-the-art school, which was recently given a £3.5 million facelift as part of South Lanarkshire Council's £850 million Primary Schools Modernisation Programme.

The guests included Bishop of Motherwell Joseph Devine and village councillor Maureen Devlin.

Head teacher, Mrs Christina Seagrave, told guests last Thursday: “We are absolutely delighted with our new school environment.

“Pupils have been learning co-operatively and engaging in active learning within our new classrooms and in the open areas.

“We very much appreciate our new IT equipment, including the ‘Smart Boards’ which have been installed in each class.

“They have been having a huge impact in the way in which we teach and learn.”

Guests also heard music and poetry recitals from the pupils.

The plaque was officially unveiled by Councillor Devlin and the school’s youngest pupil Jamie Rodger.
