Strathaven couple have extension plan approved

A STRATHAVEN couple have had retrospective planning permission for an extension granted at last week’s East Kilbride area committee meeting.

Dr Mark and Mrs Ruth Sargaison were originally granted permission to build a two-storey rear extension to their home in Eaglesfield Crescent as well as a timber decked area in April 2008.

But, during the building process, discrepancies were noted between the approved drawings and the development on site with elements of the extension and decking higher than approved.

Eight objections were received from neighbours.

However, the retrospective permission was granted. Those at the meeting were told: “While it is regrettable that the building work on site did not comply with the approved plans, a retrospective application has now been submitted and must be assessed on its own merits. The revised scheme has been fully assessed and it is considered that the proposal is in compliance with relevant Local Plan policies.”

Councillor Sheena Wardhaugh asked that work be closely monitored to ensure the same thing does not happen again.
