People across the UK will join forces to get active, raise cash and change lives.

All the money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.

The nearest event is the Sweetie Brae Mile in Strathaven Park, which runs from noon until 4pm.

Motherwell’s top scorer Lukas Jutkiewicz, on loan from Premiership side Everton, said: “I am challenging all football fans from Lanarkshire to do their bit for Sport Relief and enter their local Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile.

“By taking part they will be raising cash to help people who live unimaginably tough lives every day.”

Defender Mark Reynolds added: “This is a fantastic cause and a perfect opportunity for county football fans to get out, get fit and help people at the same time.

“The Mile is taking place just up the road in Strathaven, so get to the website and get in training now.”

As well as the Mile there will also be plenty of entertainment and activities on the day.
