Viewpark man 46) tagged for sexual activity in Strathclyde Park

A PERVERT caught in Strathclyde Park with his trousers down was electronically tagged this week.

In December last year, 46-year-old Paul McCormick, of Redwood Crescent, Viewpark, pleaded guilty to breaching the terms of an interim sexual offences prevention order on November 26 last year by being found in Strathclyde Park on that date.

The order, placed on him on November 2, prevented him from entering any public park in Scotland.

The accused also pleaded guilty to being found in a vehicle on the same date with his trousers down.

He admitted failing to fasten his trousers when asked to do so by police officers and subsequently getting out of the vehicle with his trousers still down.

McCormick also admitted failing to provide a breath sample when asked to do so by PC Scott McDonald.

However, a not guilty plea to a further charge of driving the vehicle without the owner’s permission was accepted by the Crown.

Two further guilty pleas to driving without a licence or car insurance were withdrawn by defence solicitor John Costello, acting for Charles Ferguson, at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday. This was also accepted by the Crown.

Sheriff John Miller sentenced McCormick, a dairy worker, to a restriction of liberty order for 150 days.

The order requires McCormick to be in his home address between the hours of 7pm and 7am, seven days a week.

Sheriff Miller also disqualified the accused from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for 12 months after failing to provide the breath sample.

McCormick was also in court facing a charge of breaching a previously-imposed probation order in January 2009.

He pleaded guilty to engaging in a solo sex act at Strathclyde Park on January 30 last year.

Sheriff Miller allowed the probation order to continue, with the condition that McCormick attend alcohol counselling.

He was also told to co-operate in the assessment of his suitability for attending a Community Sex Offenders Group Work Programme.

McCormick has a number of previous convictions, including two for acts of public indecency.

In June 2008, the Advertiser reported that he was given probation and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register after committing a lewd act in front of people in Strathclyde Park in February 2008.
