A LANARKSHIRE woman who sings karaoke has been hailed the new Susan Boyle after last month successfully auditioning for Britain’s Got Talent.
Janey Cutler (81) from Wishaw, impressed judges at the Glasgow Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) auditions with a stunning rendition of Non Je Ne Regrette Rien, the hit by Edith Piaf.
Last Saturday at Hamilton’s Victoria Bar, Quarry Street, she sang at the 60th birthday of her friend Terry Moore and received a standing ovation from patrons there.
The pensioner and widowed mum-of-five, four daughters and one son, has known Terry, now her musical director, for five or six years.
Terry, from Whitehill, Hamilton, prompted Janey to enter the competition that saw Susan Boyle shoot to international fame after she sang ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables musical, in last year’s show.
Janey, dubbed NuBo entered BGT online and went to the audition at the Armadillo, Glasgow last month.
She was helped onstage by Anthony McPartlin, before her performance to more than 3000 people in the audience.
Every note she sang was greeted with spontaneous applause and she was given a standing ovation after each song.
Terry told the Advertiser this week: “Janey is being flown down to London tomorrow (Friday) by the organisers of Britain’s Got Talent, for a two-night stay at a top hotel in the city.
Terry, along with some of Janey’s family, will be taking the train to London to give their support during the audition.
Terry added: “She will be performing to the judges and hopes to impress them enough in order to get through to the next stage of the show.
At her Glasgow audition she impressed judge Piers Morgan so much that he compared her to Susan Boyle, of Blackburn, West Lothian, who sold six-million albums after appearing on last year’s show.
Morgan said: “Glasgow was the place where we unearthed the great Susan Boyle last year.
“When Scotland appeared to be heading into it’s normal abyss of talentless delusion, out stepped a lady of a slightly older vintage who delivered an astonishing, spine-tingling two minute performance right up there with my favourite moments in BGT history.
In regard to Janey he said: “Prepare to be stunned.”
Terry Moore added: “No-one ever knows for sure if the judges will put someone through, regardless of how popular they may be to the audience. I think Janey’s up-and-coming audition is just a formality, she has the most amazing voice and sounds similar to Dame Shirley Bassey.”
