NEWFIELD Primary School and Nursery Class were, earlier this month given a positive report from the HM Inspectorate of Education.
The school had a roll of 232 pupils, including 28 in their nursery class, when it was inspected in November.
The inspectors found the children to be kind, respectful and keen to learn with good skills and knowledge in environmental and health education and great partnership with parents and the surrounding community.
The head teacher and staff were said to have provided a safe and nurturing environment for learning. Examples of good practice involved the school in creating a new vision statement and using social enterprise projects to develop citizenship skills.
A spokesman for HM Inspectorate said: “We are confident that with support from the education authority, the school will be able to make the necessary improvements in light of the inspection findings.
“We have agreed that there were two areas for improvement with the school education authority.”
These improvements include further progress in children’s learning experiences in the nursery class through more effective planning, assessment and tracking of the children’s learning.
The other improvement is in the arrangements for self-evaluation and monitoring children’s progress to ensure consistently high quality learning and teaching and increased impact on children’s attainment.
Various requirements which were seen as not having been met at the last Care Commission inspection of the nursery class resulted in seven recommendations being made.
Six of these have by now been addressed by the school.
Outstanding issues are carried forward in the full report, available on the HMIE website: www.hmie.gov.uk or by the link: http://www.hmie.gov.uk/ViewEstablishment.aspx?id=8120&type=2.
