Former Rangers stars to help Larkhall blind man raise cash

FORMER Rangers stars are set to put their best foot forward – to help a blind Larkhall man raise a staggering £100,000 for charity.

Ex-Ibrox players Terry Hurlock, Arthur Numan, Mark Hately, Alex Rae, Gordon Durie, John Brown, and Andy Goram are backing Scott Cunningham’s latest charity venture, ‘Travis Trek 6 – The Legends Return.’

With the help of the footballers, Scott and his loyal guide dog Travis will tackle the West Highland Way, from south to north, on Sunday, March 28, to coin it in for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

Starting at Milngavie, the seven-day trek will end in Fort William on Saturday, April 3.

Along with the Ibrox legends, Scott will be accompanied by members of the Royal Marine Commandos. The marines will join Scott and Travis for the start of their march of over 100 miles, as they prepare to cross some of the most dramatic landscape in Scotland.

Scott (39), of Avon Road, said: “With £85,000 raised from my previous treks, our aim this year is to break the £100,000 barrier. When we started, I never dreamed we could raise so much for Guide Dogs.

“But over 500 miles later, averaging 100 miles a trek, I’m confident we can reach this fundraising landmark and, in doing so, show the world how remarkable the partnership is between guide dog and owner.”

Last year Mark Hately, Andy Goram, Arthur Numan, Alex Rae and Terry Hurlock helped Scott raise cash when they took part in ‘The Legends Trek.’

Former Rangers midfielder Terry Hurlock added: “I loved every minute of last year’s trek. It is great being able to help Scott and Travis raise so much money for such a worthwhile cause, enjoying the challenge, and having many laughs with the supporters and my former team-mates.”

The team are inviting people to join them for parts of the trek as follows: Sunday, March 28 - Milngavie to Balmaha, 20 miles. Monday, March 29 - Balmaha to Inversnaid, 14 miles. Tuesday March 30 - Inversnaid to Crianlarich, 13 miles to Ben More Lodge. Wednesday March 31 - Crianlarich to Bridge of Orchy, 13 miles, Bridge of Orchy Hotel. Thursday, April 1 - Bridge of Orchy to King's House, 13 miles, Bridge of Orchy Hotel. Friday, April 1 - King's House to Kinlochleven, 9 miles - McDonald Hotel. Saturday, April 2, Kinlochleven to Fort William, 14 miles - Alexandra Hotel.
