Motherwell yob caged after 18-day crime spree

A YOUNG ned’s crime spree more than two years ago has landed him with a spell in Polmont.

Eighteen-year-old Jamie Goodman, of Clapperhowe Road in Motherwell, admitted committing five separate crimes across the town over an 18-day period in 2007, when he was only 16 years old.

However, the Crown accepted his not-guilty pleas to a further four charges against him during the same period.

Teen terror Goodman’s spree began on October 14, 2007, when he damaged a CCTV camera in Linksview Road.

Almost two weeks later, Goodman re-offended when he stole a case of lager while on bail from Ashraf Grocers in Muirhouse Road on October 27.

Three days later, the yob committed a similar crime when he shoplifted 12 cans of lager from a Londis store, also on Muirhouse Road, on October 30.

On the same day, Goodman placed workers at the store in a state of fear and alarm when he caused a disturbance, demanding entry and acting in a disorderly manner.

He also committed these offences while on bail.

On November 1, two days later, Goodman was caught in Shields Drive, Motherwell, while possessing cannabis resin, a charge which the teenager he admitted.

However, the Crown accepted his not guilty plea to committing a breach of the peace in Linksview Road on October 17, 2007.

He also pleaded not guilty to two separate counts of breaching bail conditions by approaching Muirhouse Tower on October 27 and November 1, which were accepted by the Crown.

Goodman’s not-guilty plea to perverting the course of justice by giving a false name, also on November 1, was also accepted.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court this week, Sheriff John Stewart ordered Goodman to serve six months’ detention in a young offenders’ institute.
