Blantyre man was four times the limit during car crash

A BLANTYRE thug was more than four times the drink drive limit when he crashed in Hillhouse last year.

Greg Zowie Buchanan had an alcohol-blood count of 143microgrammes per 100ml when he caused the accident at the roundabout in Hillhouse Road on April 11 last year.

The legal limit is 35.

Buchanan admitted the offence.

He also pleaded guilty to driving carelessly, and driving too close to the rear of a car in front before attempting to go round the roundabout the wrong way.

Last Friday at Hamilton Sheriff Court, the court heard that Buchanan’s actions on the roundabout forced another vehicle to make an emergency stop.

Buchanan then lost control of his car, which collided with two poles before coming to rest on a grass verge.

However, the Crown accepted the accused’s not guilty pleas to leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report it to the police.

Sheriff David Bicket adjourned the case until February 18 in order for the court to obtain a DVLA printout.

Sheriff Bicket also disqualified Buchanan – who has previous convictions for assault with a sharp object and a firearms offence – from holding or obtaining a driving licence until the matter is dealt with by the court.

Bail was continued.
