CARS have been vandalised at Bothwell Park Industrial Estate in an act that police have described as “sheer recklessness”.
Seven cars were damaged during the attack, with the bill for the vandalism estimated almost £2200.
The incident happened at the car park at Bennetts Scotland Ltd in the estate’s Wilkie Road, between 1pm on Saturday, December 12, and 8am on Monday, December 14.
The cars ranged from personal vehicles to hire cars and contract cars.
Damage included broken windows, dented bodywork, bent wiper arms and damaged mirrors.
Police believe those responsible gained access to the yard by removing wooden slats from a perimeter fence.
A set of number plates and a rear spoiler were also stolen in the attack.
A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: “Sometimes we find that stolen number plates are used to cover up crimes committed while the culprits are using their own vehicles or hired cars.
“These offences can range from stealing petrol to higher level crimes, such as armed robbery.
“However, when these number plates are spotted, police can immediately run checks to determine whether these plates are indeed stolen.”
She added: “If someone has been offered stolen plates, or a spoiler, then it is important they contact us immediately.
“Likewise, it is possible that someone has heard the person responsible bragging about damaging the cars.
“If this is the case, they should call Hamilton Police Office as soon as possible.”
