A STALWART of Motherwell and Wishaw Amateur Swimming Club has been presented with an award recognising her contribution to the organisation.
Anna Scott, who has been a member of the group for 70 years, was recently given a Supercounty Lifetime Achievement Award.
At the ceremony Lanarkshire Lord Lieutenant and Supercounty director Gilbert Cox said Anna had first appeared in the swimming club minutes of February, 1929.
Now in her eighties, Anna, of Wishaw, became club secretary in 1943 and passed the job on to her daughter Jeanette in 1971.
In 1951 she became a life member of the club and was senior captain that year and in 1952, 1953 and 1954.
Since 1971 she has held the posts of handicap secretary, membership secretary, treasurer, president and now honorary president.
Mr Cox said: “Until recently, Anna was always in the pool teaching the juniors and seniors, but although she doesn’t teach now she never misses a meeting and is always willing to give advice and encouragement.”
Anna’s daughter Jeanette and grand-daughter Wendy have become life members in recognition of their service to the club.
It is the first time that three generations have been given this honour.
