A PACKED programme full of entertainment for all the family will take place before Hamilton’s Christmas lights are switched on.

The annual event will take place on Sunday, with the switch-on taking place at 5pm. Santa and South Lanarkshire Provost Russell Clearie will turn on the lights.

The programme for the day will include music prizes from 3pm.

There will be children’s games from 3.05-3.15pm.

Real Radio’s Paul Harper will present the £100 cash challenge from 3.35-3.50pm.

The Festive Fire Act will take to the stage from 3.50-4pm.

The MacDonald Bros/High School Holiday live music set will entertain from 4-4.45pm.

As well as the fun-filled programme, a continental-style Christmas market with around 100 stalls will be in place from 10.30am on the pedestrian part of Quarry Street.

The stalls will sell a variety of Christmas gifts, decorations, jewellery and arts and crafts.

Fairground attractions and rides will also be at the new Town Square and Castle Street.

A variety of street entertainers will mix and mingle with the audience throughout the show and a host of local talent will feature.

Chairman of South Lanarkshire Council’s enterprise resources committee, Councillor Chris Thompson, said: “I hope as many people as possible will come along and support what is always a fantastic event.”
