Chatelherault Primary kids raise over £3400 for Macmillan Cancer Support

BIG-hearted children at a Hamilton primary school have raised more than £3400 for charity.

Chatelherault Primary has managed to raise the highest amount collected by a school in Lanarkshire this year for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In September, the school took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee morning event, which was run by parents, volunteers and pupil helpers.

The school cook, Liz Kane, supplied a range of cakes and helped to prepare tea and coffee.

There was also a raffle with prizes donated by parents.

And while the coffee morning was a huge success, the school didn’t stop there with their fundraising efforts.

Chatelherault’s four senior classes also took part in some enterprising events.

They organised tuck shops, a dress-down day and the sponsored Run-a-Mile event.

The children who were involved in these enterprising events were Rebekah Leah O’Neill, Jenna Smith, Kallum Cheung, Nicholas Grannell, Emily Wilson and Ross Macnamara; all from P7.

Ilyas Ahmed, Amy Elder, Lucy Provan, who are all in P6, were also members of the teams.

While these children were involved in the planning stages and helped to run the tuck shop on the day, the children from the senior classes also helped to organise and marshall the Run-a-Mile event, giving out stickers and water at the finishing line.

Another group of enterprising pupils planned their fundraising independently.

Fiona Richardson, Fiona Robertson, Claire Finnigan, Lucy Provan, Amy Elder and Rachel Boyce, all P6, decided that they would like to form a business to raise money for charity.

In total, the school raised £3427.

Angela McCormack, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Due to the amazing efforts of our staff, pupils and parents, Chatelherault Primary managed to raise the highest amount collected by a school in Lanarkshire.”
