FEMALE fashion from every corner of Lanarkshire’s multi-ethnic community will be celebrated at a prestigious catwalk show.
The ‘One Gender, Many Cultures’ fashion show will see around 30 Lanarkshire women model a variety of clothes reflecting the range of cultural backgrounds in the county.
Not only will it be a cultural celebration awash with colour and style, it will also raise funds for cancer support charity Maggie’s Lanarkshire.
The event has been organised by the Bellshill-based group Humjolie in partnership with Maggie’s Lanarkshire and is supported by NHS Lanarkshire and the Scottish Community Women’s fund.
Humjolie provides a range of services to Asian women in Lanarkshire as well as a place for them to meet and discuss issues that are important to them.
The event will feature fashions from Debenhams and the Asian Fashion Centre, with hairstyling by Uddingston-based Rainbow Room International.
Anila Ansari, an NHS Lanarkshire community health educator, said: “This fabulous fashion show will not only give Lanarkshire women the chance to get involved and raise awareness of the work of a valued charity, it will also be an opportunity for women from different cultural backgrounds to come together and promote community cohesion and celebrate diversity.”
She added: “With Indian classical dance, Irish dance, a female DJ playing pop, bhangra and Bollywood music, and various raffle prizes, it’s also a chance to have a great night out.”
The One Gender Many Cultures fashion show will be held at the Hilton Strathclyde on Sunday, November 8.
It starts at 6.30pm and tickets are now on sale priced £15/£20 which includes a buffet.
They are available at humjolie@yahoo.co.uk or by calling Anila Ansari on 01698 744220.
