Blantyre firm Daysoft sponsor guide dog puppy

BLANTYRE contact lens manufacturer Daysoft have introduced their newest recruit, a nine-weeks-old Guide Dog puppy called Daysie.

Daysoft decided to sponsor a puppy because of the work the charity Guide Dogs do with blind and partially-sighted people.

Ron Hamilton, chairman of Daysoft said: “Daysie embodies the values close to my heart as the founder and chairman of a company which deals with the need to take care of your eyes. She will become an ambassador for Daysoft as we continue to promote the importance of eye care to local people and she will go on to provide independence and mobility to a blind or partially-sighted person.”

Daysie, a labrador retriever, is currently with her puppy walker Doreen Stone who will socialise Daysie and get her used to different experiences, such as visiting shops and travelling on public transport.

It is planned to introduce Daysie to local schoolchildren as part of Daysoft’s commitment to help kids learn about the importance of taking care of their eyes while they are growing up.

Gillian Moffitt, regional fundraising manager for Guide Dogs in Scotland, said: “Breeding, training and supporting a guide dog partnership is an expensive undertaking. Guide dogs change lives and Daysoft’s sponsorship is much appreciated.”

Daysoft have just created another 10 new jobs at their premises in the Hamilton International Technology Park, taking recruitment to around 50.
