Man in court on M74 road death charge

A MAN appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week in connection with a crash on the M74 in which a dad-of-two died.

Van driver Mark Fleeman, aged 32, from Staffordshire, died on June 4 on the motorway near Larkhall.

His passenger 17-year-old Lee Allsup, also from Staffordshire, was seriously injured in the crash.

Paul Lyons, from Bonnybridge, was flown from Spain last week after being handed over to Scottish Police.

He later appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court in private charged with murder, or an alternative charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

Lyons also faced a charge of attempted murder, or an alternative charge of reckless driving.

Other charges included assault to severe injury and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.
