PLANS are expected to be rubber-stamped this week to turn the former Faces Disco site in Motherwell into flats.
Twenty-six flats are expected to be built on the Dalziel Street site.
North Lanarkshire planning and environment committee are today (Thursday) expected to approve an application to develop housing on the site.
A fire damaged the three-storey sandstone building some years ago and the structure has been demolished to make way for the proposed residential development.
All that remains of the building is the frontage and both sides and these will be retained within the new development.
Lanarkshire Housing Association seek full planning permission to erect the flats which will be split into two sections.
A three-storey section will be to the east and a six-storey section to the west.
One letter of objection was received against the new proposal. A neighbour said while they supported the principle of development on this site and the intended use, “the design is currently not acceptable in its present form as it is considered to be an example of bad contemporary design.
“North Lanarkshire Council as a planning authority must demand a higher level of design.”
However planning officials in a report to the planning and transportation committee considered the development as “acceptable in terms of the development plan and meets the criteria set out in the relevant policies contained within the Local Plan.”
Councillors are also expected at the same meeting to agree to allow holiday lodges to be built at the campsite at Strathclyde Park, in Motherwell.
M&Ds Leisure plan to build 19 lodges on the site which would be connected to the Alona Hotel who would manage the letting.
Access to the site would be taken from the main road from the Bellshill Road end of Strathclyde Park.
No objections were received for this application. Officials are expected to recommend that the application be granted at the meeting today.
