Hamilton's Tyra chosen for CBeebies show

A TALENTED Hamilton youngster has landed herself a television spot on a new children's programme.

Tyra McAteer was successful in her audition to appear on Waybulloo which is soon to appear on the BBC’s CBeebies channel.

The seven-year-old auditioned for the series which has been hailed by the producers as the new Tellytubbies.

The animated series is set in the magical land of Nara, inhabited by the joyful and gentle Piplings.

Lau Lau, Yo Jojo, De Li and Nok Tok learn Yoga, meet children and have lots of fun and adventure.

Tyra, a member of the Scottish School of Musical Theatre’s Junior Superstars programme, was filmed over a six-month period and will be seen on the programme which will be broadcast on the channel throughout the year.

The St Mary’s Primary School pupil will be taking part in yoga, drama, and mountain climbing, which have been filmed using a blue screen and later digitally enhanced.

Tyra has been a member of the Scottish School of Musical Theatre for a number of years.

Sheridan Nicol, creative director of the school, said:

“At the school we have close links to agencies which are used by the BBC.

“We sent nine of our children along to audition and three were selected which was excellent.”

Children from all over Lanarkshire attend at the musical theatre school.

From children as young as three who attend a Boogie Babies class on a Saturday in the United Reformed Church, South Park Road, Hamilton.

The school will soon be on the look out for more talented youngsters for their seven plus class held in St Mary’s Church, Hamilton on a Monday.
