Trades Union Council will celebrate International Workers’ Memorial Day

NORTH Lanarkshire Trades Union Council will be holding their second annual event to commemorate The International Workers’ Memorial Day on Tuesday, April 28 at Summerlee, Coatbridge. The event will run from noon-1pm.

There will be a host of speakers, who will be introduced by Jim Baxter of NLTUC.

They include North Lanarkshire Provost Tom Curley, STUC general secretary Grahame Smith, Elaine Smith MSP, Christina McKelvie MSP, North Lanarkshire Council Leader Jim McCabe, Richard Leonard from GMB, Dorothy Wright from Families Against Corporate Killers and Hugh Gaffney from NLTUC.

Piper Robert Thompson will play, followed by the laying of wreaths and flowers and a minute’s silence to remember all workers who died while at work.

This event will be held at NLTUC Workers Memorial at the front gates of Summerlee Heritage Museum Park, which is now open to the public after a multi-million pound refurbishment.
