Thief who damaged courtroom dock still awaiting sentence

SENTENCE on a young Hamilton thief who damaged the dock in a courtroom was again deferred for reports this week.

William Shanks had admitted breaking into a shop in Silvertonhill Avenue on February 24 this year.

When he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court the following day, he lashed out at the dock when Sheriff Joyce Powrie - noting that he had recently been placed on probation on other housebreaking charges - remanded him in custody. Last month 17-year-old Shanks admitted a charge of vandalising the dock.

A Hamilton Sheriff Court on Tuesday, Sheriff Powrie deferred sentence until May 19 for a further probation progress report on the original break-ins.

Sentence on the other outstanding matters was also deferred until that date.
