EIGHTEEN teachers in South Lanarkshire made the grade this week – and are on their way to becoming head teachers.
The group, who successfully achieved Headship qualifications, were honoured at a presentation held in South Lanarkshire Council’s headquarters in Hamilton’s Almada Street.
Nine teachers have achieved the Scottish Qualification for Headship (SQH).
The SQH group was made up of: Denise Crawford, former Principal Teacher, Calderglen High, East Kilbride; Joy Deacon, Acting Head Teacher, Kirkfieldbank Primary; Margaret Friel, Departmental Head Teacher (DHT), St Leonard’s Primary, East Kilbride;
Scott Gilkison, DHT, Calderside Academy, Blantyre; Dawn Laing, DHT, Wester Overton Primary, Strathaven; Christine McMillan, Head Teacher, Biggar Primary; John Mullen, DHT, Larkhall Academy; Diane Osprey, DHT Calderside Academy, Blantyre; and John Robertson, DHT, Carluke High.
Nine teachers also completed the Flexible Routes to Headship (FRH) course. This provides an enhancement of the current SQH route in the leadership development of future head teachers. The purpose of both courses is to encourage more head teachers during anticipated shortfall.
The FRH course was completed by: Carol Fleming, DHT, Townhill Primary, Hamilton; Linda Gardner, DHT, Calderwood Primary, East Kilbride; Rosalind Gibson, PT2, St Patrick’s Primary, Strathaven; Ellen Jack, HT, Sandford Primary; Dawn Lawson, HT, Murray Primary, East Kilbride; Helen McGarvey, HT, Burnside Primary, Rutherglen ; Juliette McCulloch, HT, Auchinraith Primary, Blantyre; Laura Miller, DHT, Mossneuk Primary, East Kilbride; and Robert Stewart, DHT, Uddingston Grammar.
