INTERNATIONAL charity SCIAF this week thanked supporters in Hamilton for digging deep to help thousands of people affected by the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It has been revealed people in Lanarkshire have given more than £8900 to the Congo Appeal.
A magnificent £85,900 has been raised in total thanks to the support of donors from across Scotland.
SCIAF have used the money to provide medicine, temporary shelters, blankets and hygiene packs to 150,000 people left homeless.Š
SCIAF chief executive Paul Chitnis said:Š “I would like to thank everyone in the Hamilton area who has made a donation.
“The overwhelming response we have seen is greatly appreciated both by SCIAF and the many thousands of civilians who have been caught up in this conflict.
“This money will help SCIAF make a real difference.
“With our partners in the North Kivu area of the Congo we are continuing to provide emergency support to those who need it.Š
“We are also calling on the UK government to use their significant political influence in the region to help secure a long-term peace.”
