Tax advice that could help avoid incurring a fine

LANARKSHIRE residents who file self-assessment tax returns are being advised to do so before January 31 or face a £100 fine.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is issuing a reminder to submit the form online as the deadline for paper filing passed on October 31.

To register visit the HMRC website at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa and click ‘Register for Self Assessment Online’.

HMRC’s Stephen Banyard said: “If you are filing your return in January you need to do it online.”

And he added: “It is quick, secure and convenient, and if you have not filed online before there is plenty of help and support available.”
