SCOTTISH Water are advising their Lanarkshire customers to prevent burst pipes by wrapping them up with insulation this winter.
The company point out that taking the measure can help to avoid costly bills to replace carpets, furniture and bedding ruined by water damage.
It advised householders to leave their heating on at a low temperature, check that loft insultation is in good condition and fit draught excluders to doors and windows.
Scottish Water also pointed out that people should ensure that they know the location of their stop valve.
Director of communications Chris Wallace said: “Temperatures start to rise after a cold snap and this change in temperature can cause pipes to burst.
“Although winters have been warmer over the last few years there is no telling when a cold snap might bite.
“If people take simple steps now to heat, insulate and protect their homes, they can enjoy peace of mind that their home is wrapped up for winter, which in turn will help to reduce the risk of any repair bills for burst pipes.” Advice can be found at www.scottishwater.co.uk/warmpipes.
