Jury find woman not guilty of glass attack

A WOMAN charged with assaulting a man at a Hamilton New Year party walked free from court last week.

Lynnanne Boyle had also been accused of biting Douglas Ross on the body at his Millgate Road home early on January 1 last year and throwing a knife at him.

The 27-year-old, of Kinnoul Place, Blantyre, was said to have thrown a glass tumbler at Ross during a row.

At that start of a jury trial Boyle denied assaulting Ross to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

However, on the third day of proceedings at Hamilton Sheriff Court the Crown deleted mention of throwing the knife from the charge, and a jury later found Boyle not guilty of the remaining part of the charge by unanimous verdict.

Ross (34) told the court he had been rowing with Lynnanne Boyle over the disappearance of £10 from her bag.

He said he hit her once on the face with the back of his hand and walked away.

However, at that point he was hit on the right side of his face with a glass.

Ross did not see who had hit him, and said it could have been any of three women at the party.

He said he could not remember a great deal as he suffered from “memory problems.”

Ross also pointed out that had consumed two bottles of Buckfast and had taken a gram of cocaine.

The party had been attended by Josephine Lindsay - with whom he had got engaged to that day - her son Thomas Reid, Andrew Ashcroft, Boyle and another girl whom he did not know.
