Seeking ways to attract tourists

LANARKSHIRE Area Tourism Partnership have launched a consultation to find out people’s thoughts on tourism in the area.

The action plan has been devised to encourage tourism and improve the image of Lanarkshire.

Since its launch in 2005, the action plan has made significant progress in changing perceptions of Lanarkshire as a visitor destination.

Mark Calpin, chairman of Lanarkshire Area Tourism Partnership, said: “Lanarkshire has demonstrated its commitment to the national tourism target by setting an ambitious stretch growth target of 60 per cent increase in tourism revenue by 2015.”

He added: “This target has been set despite the economic downturn of 2008. In the meantime, it is anticipated that this situation will encourage more UK citizens to holiday nearer to home.”
