Shoplifter gets another chance

A HAMILTON serial shoplifter was put on a drug treatment and testing order in a bid to tackle her habit.

Lorraine McGill had admitted a charge of thieving toiletries from Lloyds Pharmacy in the Burnbank Centre on September 4 this year. The 24-year-old, of Glenlee Street, has a criminal record which includes numerous shoplifting offences. In September, co-accused, 30-year-old Lee Steele of Balmore Drive, pleaded not guilty to the theft from the chemist’s, and this was accepted.

McGill’s lawyer, Charles Ferguson, told Sheriff Douglas Brown on Monday she was willing to follow a recommendation in a report for the court.

Imposing the order at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Sheriff Brown said McGill would be tested twice a week and set a review date for January 13.
