PROBUS: Bothwell and Uddingston Probus welcomed Alan Hopkirk as guest speaker at their meeting last Thursday. Alan gave an interesting talk entitled ‘Hearing for Life’.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 11, when Professor George Maxwell will give a talk entitled ‘Quarrying in Lanarkshire’. All gentlemen are invited to attend this meeting, which starts at 2.30pm in Uddingston Old Parish Church hall.
OLD PARISH: Rev Norman McKee conducted worship at Uddingston Old Parish Church on Sunday. During the service the first candle for Advent was lit by Callum Fox. The minister also dedicated the nativity scene gifted to the church in memory of the late Helen McMahon. Helen was a dedicated Sunday School leader who is greatly missed.
Rev McKee conducted the christening service of Jenna Harraughty. Also admitted into full membership of the church was Allison Edgar, of Angela Way, Uddingston.
The choir sang the Advent anthem conducted by organist John Burnett. Scripture lessons were read by church Elder, Mima Herd.
The United Men’s Fellowship meet on Monday when guest speaker is N. Henley. All gentlemen are invited to attend this meeting, which starts at 7.30pm.
The Girls’ Brigade are holding their coffee evening tonight (Thursday) from 6.45pm till 8.15pm. The girls will entertain with Christmas carols. There will also be various stalls, including home baking, calendars and Christmas gifts. Entry costs £2 at the door and includes tea, coffee and mince pies.
The 1st Uddingston Boys’ Brigade are holding their annual coffee morning in the Old Parish hall on Saturday from 10am till noon. Admission costs £2.
