Staring at a nine-month sentence

A HAMILTON man who stared at women in a Glasgow shopping centre has been jailed for nine months.

James Reilly (58), of Abercorn Drive, committed the breach of the peace at Princes Square between May 1, 2007 and April 30 this year.

Reilly also made remarks of a sexual nature to a woman at his home on August 22 this year. He admitted both breaches of the peace in October.

His not guilty plea to a further breach of the peace, alleging he stood at the front of a stairwell and stared at female members of the public at Glasgow’s Buchanan Bus Station between June 1, 2007 and May 31, 2008, was accepted by the Crown.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Sheriff John Stewart backdated the jail term to October 7 – the day Reilly went into custody.

Sheriff Stewart also placed the 58-year-old on the Sex Offenders Register for five years.
