Pupils are given insight into heroes from pages of history

PUPILS from a Hamilton primary school were taken back through the centuries and given a glimpse of Scotland's culture in bygone days.

The children from St Paul's in Whitehill joined pupils from across South Lanarkshire at a Historic Heroes event in Whitehill Neighbourhood Centre.

The event had been devised and funded by the Arts in Education network team to help encourage the younger generation in South Lanarkshire to celebrate their culture and heritage in a variety of innovative and unique ways.

With the help of Hugh and Carol Robertson, from Living History Scotland - a group who deliver education packages within schools and for museums and film - pupils aged from P5 to P7 took part in kilt-making, Scottish dance and Scottish storytelling workshops, as well enjoying a performance from Hopscotch Theatre Company who delivered their play, Loyal Wallace Royal Bruce.

The cultural co-ordinator in schools project supports and organises many events such as this, encouraging pupils aged from three to 18 to participate in diverse cultural activities within education.
