A CAT with a horrific neck injury was dumped in a cardboard box at a bus stop in Hamilton.
A woman found the abandoned animal in Bothwell Road on Sunday, November 9, at 4pm.
She took the distressed cat to the Scottish SPCA’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Bothwell Road.
Staff at the centre have named her Magic and are appealing for information on what happened to the cat.
Michael Prewett, manager at the Hamilton Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, said: “This poor cat has been through quite an ordeal.
“The wound on its neck is fairly deep and may have been caused by an ill-fitting or inappropriate collar.
“Although a bit nervous, she is a very nice domestic short-haired cat, around two to three years old. “
The cat will be looking for a new home if its owner doesn’t reclaim her.
Mr Prewett added: “The cat is still under veterinary treatment and, if unclaimed, she will be available for rehoming once she has made a full recovery.
“She can be reserved in the meantime.”
Abandoning an animal is an offence that could result in a fine of up to £5000 and six months in prison.
Claire Gordon, spokeswoman for SSPCA, said yesterday that the cat is on the mend and looking for a new home.
“She is recovering well but is still on medication from the vet.
“It is likely that a collar caused the injuries and no-one has come forward to claim her so we are looking for someone to rehome her.”
