TWO Blantyre companies are this week celebrating their achievements in business.
Weatherproofing Advisors Ltd, who operate from Blantyre Industrial Estate, has won two prizes at the Scottish Roofing Awards.
They were named the best flat roofing system for their work on the refurbishment of the Queen Elizabeth building at Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary.
The company also won a special health, safety and environment award, and was shortlisted for accolades for work at Cumlodden Flats in Maryhill, Glasgow, and the Green Roof project at Dunblane High School.
Businesses were invited to submit their entries in August for the competition, organised by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors.
Meanwhile a multinational business has chosen another Blantyre company to undertake a landmark project in the gas industry.
Gas Certification Company, which is also based in Blantyre Industrial Estate, will help PRI Ltd build the world’s first fully electronic Smart Gas Meter.
George Loudon, managing director of the business said: “It is very encouraging for our company to be selected by such a prestigious company as PRI. It was a pleasure working with their top development team on this project.”
George’s wife Elaine, who serves as the company’s finance director, added: “We think this is a tremendous coup for the our business.”
It is hoped the joint venture between Gas Certification Company and PRI Ltd will develop a wireless technology to enable consumers to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
Jim Shields, PRI Gas Group Engineer, explained: “Our team spent five days at Gas Certification Company’s fully accredited Blantyre Training Centre covering various aspects of elementary gas safety and technical competence training.
“The guys had formal assessments and this resulted in their achieving the Accredited Code of Practice Certificate.
“It was very intense. The input was incredibly professional and our guys have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
Another four executives from the PRI Ltd are scheduled to undertake a similar course in November.
