AS Hallowe’en approaches, Hamilton householders have been warned they could receive some really scary guests at their doors – TV Licensing enquiry officers.
They will be out on the spookiest night of the year tomorrow (Friday), and with a database of almost 30 million addresses they can pinpoint exactly which properties are unlicensed.
So far this year, over 800 people in Hamilton have been caught watching TV without a licence, all of them risking prosecution and a fine.
Fergus Reid, TV Licensing spokesperson for Scotland, said: “TV Licensing have a duty to enforce the licence fee on behalf of the honest majority who pay, which is why we’ll be out visiting cheats in Hamilton this Hallowe’en.
“We would always prefer people to pay a licence than be haunted by the spectre of a £1000 fine.
“To help, we offer a range of ways to pay, which are explained at www.tvlicensing.co.uk/info.”
