Door-to-door credit agent admits embezzling £17K

A VIEWPARK man last week admitted embezzling more than £17,000 while working for a door-to-door finance company.

Darren Cavin admitted taking the money while working as an agent for Provident between August 6, 2005, and November 7, 2006, from his home in Viewpark’s Sixth Street and elsewhere in Lanarkshire.

Hamilton Sheriff Court was told Cavin managed to embezzle £17,616 by applying for loans in other people’s names without their knowledge.

He would also make legitimate loan applications for people but would pocket some of the cash for himself.

The court was told last Friday that Cavin has since paid back £6000 of the cash.

The 31-year-old worked for the finance company for a year from its Easterhouse base in Glasgow.

Provident said this week they pride themselves on their 10,000 agents who travel door-to-door to offer people credit cards and unsecured loans.

A spokesperson commented: “Darren Cavin worked as a Provident personal credit agent from August 2005 to November 2006 from the Queenslie branch.

“We are grateful to the police who have worked with us and we now hope that this case will be brought to a satisfactory conclusion.”
