Advice on how to help the blind

HUNDREDS of shoppers will be given tips on how to give practical help to blind people in Hamilton.

Representatives of the Guide Dogs for the Blind will be out in force at the Regent Shopping Centre on Friday, October 10, and Saturday, October 11 as part of Guide Dog Week.

The team will be supporting Guide Dogs' national campaign, educating people and service providers in how to provide sighted guiding assistance to a person with sight loss, by handing out a 'How to guide' booklet and DVD.

Terry Thorpe, district team manager of Guide Dogs in the West of Scotland, said: "During Guide Dog Week, we hope to make many local people and service providers aware of the importance of being able to confidently provide sighted guide assistance to a person with sight loss who needs a 'helping hand'.

The 'How to guide' booklet and DVD can also be ordered from the charity's website www.guidedogs.org.uk/guidedogweek, or by calling 0870 240 6993.
