Strike threat for South Lanarkshire Council workers

TALKS between council employers and trade unions this week failed to resolve an on-going pay dispute.

Officials from UNISON, Unite and GMB met with council employers, Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (CoSLA), on Monday, September 1, following last month’s strike.

Workers had been offered 2.5 per cent pay increases for each of the next three years.

This week CoSLA amended the offer to a single-year deal of 2.5 per cent, but this was also rejected.

South Lanarkshire branch secretary of UNISON, Stephen Smellie, said further strike action was now ‘inevitable.’
