Spanish lottery scam is exposed

HOUSEHOLDERS in South Lanarkshire are being urged not to fall for the latest version of a Spanish lottery scam.

'Award notices' from the Euro Millones, La primitiva have been dropping through letterboxes across the area in recent weeks, with one householder in Carluke receiving a letter claiming that prize money of £750,000 was allocated to him.

Peter Sherry, Trading Standards manager, is concerned that many will fall for this latest version of the long-running Madrid-based scam.

He added: "The Spanish lottery scam is not a new one; however, the methods being employed by those operating it are becoming more sophisticated and devious.”

Anyone concerned that they may have been targeted can contact Trading Standards on 01698 476222/3.
