AN ARTS exhibition held last weekend at Chatelherault’s Courtyard Gallery has been hailed a great success.
The exhibition was organised by Spectrum Art Group.
They also held a competition to find the best work on display.
It was judged by professional artist Kim Redpath.
She decided that the winner of the Nessie Bain Memorial Award was Hamilton artist Margaret Canning.
Nessie (89) died in May and the award was introduced in her honour.
Margaret received the award from South Lanarkshire provost Russell Clearie and Nessie’s son Jackie.
Her winning painting, which was the study of an iris flower.
Mrs Canning was delighted to accept the award, saying that she was “honoured”.
A memorial painting called ‘Geisha Girl’ created by Mrs Bain, will also be on show for the duration of the exhibition.
The art group will also raffle an oil painting on the last day of their annual exhibition on Friday, August 28.
