THE Greyhound Awareness League, Scotland’s biggest volunteer greyhound charity, are hoping that their summer gala and dog show, to be held in Larkhall this weekend, will raise much-needed funds to help re-home unwanted racing dogs.
Organisers hope to attract hundreds of dogs and their owners to the dog show that will feature a greyhound and lurcher show ring, and an all-breeds category show ring.
The show will take place in Larkhall Sports and Leisure Centre on Saturday from noon to 4pm.
There will be a selection of stalls, including home baking, hook-a-duck, a pet illustrator, hand-made jewellery stall, the GAL shop and a prize raffle. However, the focus of the day will be the dog show.
Joyce McDonald, event coordinator, said: “We rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned and retired greyhounds and lurchers. We save animals who would otherwise be put down. They are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and are examined by a dentist before any re-homing is considered.
“We also do thorough home checks to ensure that people have the correct facilities and family circumstances which are acceptable to home a greyhound or lurcher.”
