A DOG event in aid of charity was held at Chatelherault Country Park last Sunday.
Organised by the charity Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, the event featured an attempt to break the record for the number of dogs eating dinner at the same place and same time.
This year, 152 dogs took part, but sadly that didn’t beat last year’s challenge when 241 dogs took part.
The day also featured a variety of stalls and demonstrations by gun dogs and sled dogs.
One of the highlights of the day was the Scottish national heat of the Kennel Club’s Scruffts (Crufts for crossbreeds) competition.
The winners from the five heats were:
Golden Oldie: won by Hoy, owned by Sarah Howson.
Most Handsome Crossbreed: won by Kaiser, owned by Brenda Zanieri.
Child’s Best Friend: won by Shorty, owned by 11-year-old Jamie.
Prettiest Crossbreed Bitch: won by Sony, owned by Wibke Jacob.
Wibke said: “I feel very proud to win with Sony. She is a lovely dog and the best friend in the world.”
All winners of these various categories are eligible to enter the National final of ‘Discover Dogs’ being held at Birmingham in November.
Evie Johnstone, regional fund-raiser for Scotland, said: “Hearing dogs are special to their deaf owners and we work hard to bring that recognition to the public. The Arden Grange Dogs’ Dinner event is our way of showing how much fun your dog can be and how important it is to be ‘in partnership’ with our dogs.”
