Remedial work starts on Duke Street car park

WORK started on Monday on a £250,000 project to refurbish the upper deck of Duke Street multi-storey car park in Hamilton.

Repairs will carried out to the concrete structure and a new waterproofing membrane installed.

South Lanarkshire Council, who have awarded the contract to Mackenzie Construction Limited, say the 10-week scheme will be phased to ensure 70 per cent of the upper deck remains available to drivers for parking.

A council spokesman said that the work would ensure that the exposed upper deck will be protected from the weather and sealed against water penetration.

In addition, the running surface will be improved for both vehicles and pedestrians and the general appearance will be enhanced by the introduction of a ‘colour-coded layout’.

The spokesman added: “We are aware of the inconvenience operations of this nature may have on the public, neighbouring residents and businesses.

“Every effort has been made during the planning of these essential works to ensure that they are completed as quickly as possible.”
