Better care on way for residents

CARE home residents in Hamilton, Blantyre, Larkhall, Stonehouse and Uddingston are set to receive an enhanced package of general medical services.

From September 1, most of the care homes will have a dedicated general practice looking after the residents who live there.

The new service will mean that a GP visits the care home at least twice-a-week to undertake care reviews and ensure that patients’ medication is regularly reviewed.

Geoff Sage, of NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Throughout Lanarkshire we are investing around £800,000 in this initiative.

“This will include work around falls prevention, care of residents with diabetes, dementia care, patients with specific nutritional requirements, and palliative care patients.”
