Share your memories of the NHS on anniversary website

A SPECIAL website has been set up by NHS Lanarkshire as part of the health service’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

As well as featuring the memories of local staff and celebrities, the public are being urged to get involved and share their own stories on the website.

Hugh Sweeney, chair of NHS Lanarkshire’s 60th anniversary group, said: “This site provides staff, patients and the general public the opportunity to share their experiences of the NHS in Lanarkshire since 1948.

“There are fascinating stories in the memory section which I’m sure will remind people of how the NHS has changed over the years and perhaps raise a few smiles.”

Among the Lanarkshire celebrities who have recorded their memories are Ally McCoist, Billy McNeill, Elaine C Smith, Jack McConnell, John Reid and John Swinburne.

A number of events are being held to mark the NHS anniversary, such as a charity ball and volunteer reception, and details of these events can also be found on the new website, alongside photographs of the recent Family Fun Day which attracted an estimated 15,000 people to Strathclyde Park on June 22.
