Thieves targeting £5000 scrap

COPPER worth £5000 was stolen from a depot in Hamilton last week.

The 190-metre coil was taken from the premises of Core Solutions in Baird Crescent.

Chief Inspector Tom Aitken, of Hamilton Police, said there had been a recent upsurge of thefts involving metal.

Drain covers had been stolen from roads across the district.

Last week the Advertiser reported aluminum goal posts belonging to Hamilton boys’ football club, Mill United, had been taken from Fairhill Park.

CI Aitken said the all the thefts appeared to have been prompted by the rising price of scrap metal.

Police probing the thefts of the goalposts want to interview a youth in connection with the matter.
