Joy as neighbour from hell quits flat

Terry Vandeleur with bird on his head

NOISY drunk Terence Vandeleur has done his neighbours a favour.

The 48-year-old has agreed not to return to his council flat after completing the 12-month sentence he is currently serving for breaching his ASBO.

People living near the property in Kintore Path, Hamilton, say Vandeleur has terminated his tenancy.

One told the Advertiser Vandeleur had “jumped before he was pushed” as South Lanarkshire Council were planning eviction proceedings against him.

He added: “Everyone up here is delighted, but unhappy that it has taken almost two years to get him out.

“Terry is OK when he is sober but he has a drink problem.

“He would have a few bevvies then play music loud and shout and swear at anyone who told him to turn the volume down.

“He should never have been put in a block of flats where there are families.”

An antisocial behaviour order was imposed on Vandeleur in 2006.

It prohibited him from shouting, swearing, banging doors and playing amplified sounds loudly in his flat.

However, on January 22 this year he breached the order “without reasonable excuse” by shouting, swearing and banging the doors of his house.

When Vandeleur appeared for trial in February at Hamilton Sheriff Court, he was found guilty of breaching his ASBO and jailed for a year.

He had previously been sent to prison for terms of three months and five months for breaching the order.

More than two years ago, neighbours had complained to South Lanarkshire’s ‘hell neighbour team’ after Vandeleur had allegedly appeared naked at the window of his second-floor flat.

They also lodged complaints about noise coming from the property.

It was after the team’s probe that the ASBO was imposed on Vandeleur.
