Congo film scoops award

A BBC Scotland documentary following the lives of two families from the Democratic Republic of Congo who moved to North Lanarkshire has won an award.

From Congo to Motherwell, produced and directed by social affairs reporter Fiona Walker, picked up the Amnesty International Scottish Media Award.

The Kasakota and Luvunzu families settled in Scotland as part of the UK Gateway project.

Their story is also nominated for the Amnesty UK Media awards on June 17.

The programme, which was edited by Hilary McCusker, charts the families' experiences over a six month period as they go to school, pay bills and use a gas oven for the first time.
