A725 bridge project complete

COMMUTERS received a boost after a bridge project was completed ahead of schedule.

Roads maintenance company Amey and contractors ERDC had been carrying out £450,000 of bridge work on the A725 near Blantyre’s Whistleberry Industrial Estate.

The work started early last month and was due to last five weeks.

Amey, who designed and managed the scheme on behalf of Transport Scotland, say the upgrade was completed on June 5, four days early.

Willie Watson, Amey’s unit manager for trunk routes in southwest Scotland, said: “Drivers will find an increased benefit from waterproofing, and a brand new driving surface. The overall result is easier to maintain bridges, therefore reducing the frequency of repairs.”

During the work a contraflow was in place with one lane available in each direction.

Motorists faced lengthy queues at peak times.
