It’s a first for school’s musical theatre students

PERFORMERS from the masters class of The Scottish School of Musical Theatre, were last week awarded an HNC in Dance and Musical Theatre.

They are the first youngsters of school age to be awarded such an achievement.

The SSMT is the first independent centre in Scotland to enter students aged under 16 into the HNC award.

The group have been working toward the certification over the last year.

Members of the school have been enrolled in the school from between two to 10 years.

The HNC Dance and Musical Theatre course is open to all, but entry is by audition.

The audition process includes work and preparation in drama, singing, as well as performing jazz, classical ballet and tap dancing.

Director Sheridan Nicol said: “The work is very hard especially when many of the students have school exams for Standard Grades and Highers.”

The girls, alongside the rest of the SSMT crew, will be performing a theatre production of ‘Fright Night’, this Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14, at the Hamilton Town House, performances begin at 7.15pm.

Tickets have been selling out fast, but there may be some extra tickets available for each night at the door, costing from £8.
